    World Peace, Our Way Forward

We, Humanity, have boxed ourselves into a corner in our search for world peace.  We face unprecedented problems, globally, which we are structurally unable to address.  Our governmental leadership, regardless their ideology, are constrained by narrow and practical parochial considerations with little leeway for them to act outside the conventional box—if, indeed, they actually wished to do so.

Politicians, whatever their stripe, are vested in maintaining the status quo.  Their jobs are not to foment social change—it’s to get themselves re-elected.  Period.  All of their actions are unequivocally viewed through the pragmatic conceit of achieving, maintaining and increasing their own personal political power.  Politics is a business whose coin is measured not by the good a politician does, but by the influence they wield and their ability to further enrich their deep-pocketed campaign contributors. (My apologies to the few of you politicians out there who don’t fit this bill—you know who you are and lament this fact along with the rest of us.)

The sad fact is that our global problems will not be solved through the conventional political process as practiced today on the international stage.  The solutions we seek will not be forthcoming from the top down, rather, by necessity, they will have to originate from the bottom up.

The energy for change is out there.  Discontent abounds.  It’s voice is raised on the Arab streets, and at Occupy Wall Street rallies; it can be heard anywhere people gather in goodwill to discuss our future and the pressing problems we face together as a species; and to decry the persistent failure of our Governmental Leaders to advance any meaningful solutions to those problems.

It’s the voice of the young, those with the most to gain and the most to lose in our shared quest for a safe, sane and sustainable future.  It’s the voice of the working poor who struggle daily to house and feed their families on subsistence wages.  It’s the voice of the embattled middle class, whose standard of living declines while they watch the rich continue to get richer.  It’s the voice of the poor and destitute whose lives are filled with hopeless despair.

It’s the voice of the vast majority, that 99% of us who only want our fair share; the 99% of us who just want to be left alone to live our lives in peace, free from the machinations of the Greed Heads and Power Trippers who now run our world as a private preserve solely for their benefit and amusement, regardless of morality, consequence or reason.

It’s the voice of sanity in a world seemingly gone mad.  And it’s the voice, if harnessed and focused, which can alter the political and social reality on this planet we all call home.

The way is there, if we have the will.  The way forward is there if we, that disaffected 99% of us, raise our voices together, simultaneously and universally, in the guise of a nonviolent, non-confrontational Global Strike For World Peace.

In the coming weeks and months we will be issuing such a call.  We will lay out our reasoning and rationale as to why we believe that this is our last, and best, hope to realize the future which 99% of us would like to see: a future free from fear and dread; a future where human rights are cherished and protected; a future where no child goes to bed hungry and no parent is ever forced to sell a child into bondage or slavery simply so that another may survive; a future where the rule of law is a universal constant and not just a dream; a future where bribery, corruption, unrestrained greed and institutionalized repression is an aberration and not the norm. A world of liberty and justice for all.

Please, stay tuned and spread the word. Together we CAN change the world.
